I don’t know about you, but I love writing notes and sending letters. Call me old fashioned, but I love to get mail more than email, notes more than chat requests.
When I was little, after every birthday or gift giving holiday, Nanny would sit us girls down and we’d have a thank you note writing session. Some of you may be thinking, “how old fashioned!” or “how Southern!”, but Chellee and I learned a lot in those note writing sessions.
We’d talk with Nanny about the holiday that had just passed, and what we were enjoying about our new presents. We’d talk about how it is important to show appreciation for the people that love you so that they know how much you love them back. And we’d talk about how fun it is to get mail.
I don’t care if the U.S. Postal Service eventually collapses (oh what a sad day that will be!), I will always send mail.
That peak out the window to check if the little red flag is down yet, the walk to the mailbox anticipating what’s inside – I enjoy it every day. Even when it’s filled with what my Uncle Mark terms “hate mail”, and the rest of us just call “bills”.
I guess what I’m getting at is that I’d like to see us all send more real mail. It’s easy to fire off an email, but it means so much more when you take the time to write something by hand, address it, stamp it, and put it in your mailbox. There is more to that action than meets the eye, you know?
Nanny taught me you send a little piece of yourself, and the love you have for the person on the other end, when you take the time to do that.
Today I’m going to tell you about Expressionery.com, a little card and stamp shop online that I’ve been using for years.

I was first attracted to their beautiful card stock, in every print imaginable. I’ve used their folded notes for everything from thank you notes to birthday cards.
Every time I do a giveaway that I ship myself, I tuck a little Expressionery note card in the package, thanking the reader for their time and attention to my site. To me, they’re the perfect vehicle for sending that little piece of love out into the world.
After my third or fourth order, I realized that I needed to know more about this company, and why I kept being drawn back to them. The magic of discovering that Expressionery.com is based in New Braunfels, Texas was almost cosmic.
I’ve spent so much of my childhood in and around New Braunfels – it’s tucked between San Antonio and Austin – and I could tell you so many memories about that place and the people there. Like seeing my first PG-13 movie with Nanny and Gaga at the Walnut 6 movie theatre (yes, 6 screens in total!) or tubing down the Guadalupe for the first time with my family. All of it happened in New Braunfels. I just love that one of my favorite companies blossomed there.
So I reached out to Expressionery.com, and said, “Hey, I’m going to write about you guys and how much I love your products if you don’t mind.”
Those lovely folks sent me back a sweet email, and then a few days later, products arrived in the mail unannounced. Since the people at Expressionery knew I had much experience with their note cards, they instead sent along a package filled with customized stampers, some to keep, some to give away.
There was even a Three Designing Women Wilkins Stamp, customized with our last name and address.

To say I have been a stamping fool since receiving that package is an understatement. When you have a very long surname, and a street address that’s just as long, you quickly fall in love with a stamp that writes all that information for you with a simple press of the hand. Besides, who doesn’t love to stamp?
Expressionery.com has kindly sent me their Cook Changeables Stamper set to give away to TWO lucky B&B readers.
This lovely little set is perfect for all your handwritten recipe cards – and yes, I believe we should all still do those. Read all about Nanny’s Kahlua Pie and you’ll understand why.
