There are few soups more comforting to me than savory, flavorful Baked Onion Soup. I think the first time I had it I was 5 or 6, and it was at this restaurant-bar-club spot called Gallagher’s. The special crock of bubbling, molten hot soup wafting its way towards me in the restaurant.. I can still …

When I was a kid, many a weeknight dinner started with a jar of, as many of us Southerners term it, “Spaghetti Sauce”. It wasn’t until I moved to the East Coast that I learned a few things about my beloved Spaghetti Sauce. (Or as Davey and Ava like to call it, “Basketti Sauce”.) ‘Round …
Today marks another Secret Recipe Club installment. For November, I have been assigned the lovely Paulchen, a food blog by a blogger named Astrid based in Vienna, Austria. I’ve had the good fortune to visit a few European countries, but Austria is sadly not one of them. It’s definitely on the must-see list though! Astrid …
Everyone has their favorite chicken and dumplings recipe. I’ve even blogged about what I thought was mine. But the other night, come 5:30, I was struggling with dinner ideas when an intense craving for chicken and dumplings hit me. With the nearest Cracker Barrel over an hour away, waiting for The Brit to get home …
I don’t know about you, but some nights I am wiped from work and the temptation to succumb to take out, eat out, or something in a box is almost too much to resist. One meal that James and I are happy to eat any time of year is chicken noodle soup. You may think that homemade soup is something you need hours and hours for, and yes, sometimes that’s true. But on a weeknight, it really is possible to have homemade soup in under an hour.
There are a few pantry items you need to keep on hand in order to make this possible, but believe me, once you’ve done that, when you go to stare into the depths of your fridge, and suddenly realize you’ve got everything you need for this filling and healthy supper, the wash of relief and hunger might just be at equal measures.
One of the best things about winter eating is soup, and one of the best things about winter eating in my kitchen is Bean, Bacon and Ham soup. I don’t know about you, but I always want Ham when it comes to holidays. But even when I buy the smallest spiral ham I can find, James and I are left with days and days of leftovers.
I can’t tell you a lie. James and I are really horrible at eating leftovers. Whether it’s from a restaurant or delicious food made right here at home, both of us are horrible at facing that same flavor combination the next day. I’ve found a way to combat that though, when it comes to chicken. …
Tortilla Soup is quite famous throughout San Antonio, as the cure to many ills, from a common cold to a terrible hangover. Probably one of the best restaurants to get it from in SA is Jim’s Restaurant. In fact, the coffee shop is kinda famous for it. Last time James and I were home, my …
My Nan’s potato soup has always been on my list of comfort foods. It’s never the same twice, but it always tastes amazing. It’s one of the few things that I like the taste of pepper in. When we decided to have friends over for New Year’s Day, I wanted to keep the food simple. …
